Harman called up to Philadelphia

Reading, PA – Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins (left ankle sprain), a 1999 Reading Phillies, and outfielder Chris Snelling (left knee inflammation) were placed on the 15-day disabled list, the Phillies announced today. Snelling is backdated to April 17. To fill their spots on the 25-man roster, infielder Brad Harman was recalled from double-A Reading and outfielder T.J. Bohn was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Harman's call-up makes it three years in a row an R-Phil received their first call-up to the Majors directly from Double-A without having ever played at Triple-A.  In 2006 RHP Scott Mathieson was summoned and in 2007 LHP Mike Zagurski and RHP Kyle Kendrick got the call.

For the 29-year-old Rollins, this marks the first time in his eight-year major league career that he’s been on the disabled list. He injured his ankle on April 8 at Shea Stadium running the bases in the top of the 8th inning and has not started a game since, but has pinch-hit four times, including in yesterday’s game against the Mets. Rollins is hitting .308 (12-39) this season with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and two stolen bases.

Snelling had his contract purchased from Lehigh Valley last Sunday after Shane Victorino was placed on the disabled list. Snelling, 26, is 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.

Harman, 22, was hitting .222 (12-54) with three doubles, one home run and three RBI in 16 games for Reading prior to his first major league recall. In his last five games, he was hitting .316 (6-19). For single-A Clearwater last year, Harman hit .281 with 13 home runs and 62 RBI in 122 games.

Bohn was hitting .190 (8-42) with one double in 13 games for Lehigh Valley, where he played left, right and center field. The 28-year-old was hitting .417 (5-12) in the three games prior to his recall. Bohn previously played in the major leagues with Seattle in 2006. He was claimed off waivers by the Phillies last September.

Harman will wear #18 and Bohn #12.
